Seeing the situations that the modern world was caught in, Mahaavatar Babaji initiated Lahiri Mahasaya into Kriya Yoga in the year 1861. Kriya Yoga is a scientific technique of concentration and mediation so that God contact can be realized. That teaching has been passed down to notable disciple Swami Sri Yukteswar Giri where Paramahansa Yogananda was initiated. Paramahamsa Yogananda was the first to spread Kriya Yoga to the Western World.

Kria Yoga is unique in that it provides a step by step ascension through the states of super consciousness, Christ Consciousness  and Cosmic Consciousness where to soul merges into the Supreme Being.

The followers of any religion will have to flow through those states before arriving at God union. Kriya Yoga teachings do not ask anyone to believe in any dogma. Rather it encourages practicing a proven meditation technique for actual experiencing ‘what is truth’ along the self-realization stages for oneness and God union. The goal is an answer to the eternal question, “What is truth”?

God is known by many names:

*God is referred to by many names such as:  Christ Consciousness, Divine Spirit, Source Energy, One Infinite Creator, Divine Consciousness, Bliss Consciousness, Holy Spirit, King of Kings, Creator Spirit, Supreme Being, Almighty Spirit, Eternal Spirit, Lord, Great Spirit, Wakan Tanka (from Lakota Sioux American Indian tribes), Gitchi Manitou (from Algonquin American Indian speaking tribes) …

God: This is the most common and generic term used to refer to the supreme being in many monotheistic religions, such as Christianity, Islam, and Judaism.

Allah: The Arabic word for God and is primarily used in Islam.;

Yahweh: This is the Hebrew name for God as found in the Old Testament of the Bible, particularly in Judaism.

Jehovah: Another name derived from the Hebrew name for God and is commonly used in certain Christian denominations.

Brahman: In Hinduism, Brahman is the ultimate reality and is considered the divine essence that pervades everything.

Krishna, Rama, Shiva, Vishnu: These are specific names of deities in Hinduism, representing different aspects of the divine.

Adonai: A Hebrew term that means “my Lord” and is often used as a substitute for the name Yahweh in Jewish tradition.

The Almighty: Title used to emphasize God’s supreme power and authority, found in various religious contexts.

The Creator: This title highlights God’s role as the originator and sustainer of all existence.

The Divine: A general term used to describe the transcendent or supernatural nature of God in various belief systems.

Oneness with the Creator of Source Energy requires crossing over:

Basically, above are only a few examples since there are countless other names and titles used to refer to God across different cultures, religions, and belief systems. Each name has its own significance and reflects the unique understanding and relationship that people have with their understanding of Christ’s Consciousness.

Jesus attained the Christ Consciousness and said, “The things I can do you can do too, and even greater things can you do” and yet very few demonstrate that. Apparently, they have not crossed over.  Not that everyone wants to walk on water, turn water into wine or cure the sick in the way Jesus did, yet each individual enlightened soul walking on planet Earth would like to contribute a worthwhile achievement.

As Yogananda wrote, “The Lord is Spirit; the Impersonal is invisible.  But when He created the physical world, He became God the Father.  As soon as He assumed the role of Creator, He became personal.  He became visible: this whole universe is the body of God.”

Self realization, Cosmic Consciousness, God Consciousness  is all the same experience. It is the ultimate experience of Oneness. Consequently, crossing over to become One with God is the goal for anyone seeking self-realization.  We have an opportunity to grasp that goal faster using a personal practice that is free from dogma. The method utilizing the Kriya Yoga self-realization practice and techniques as taught by Paramahansa Yogananda through his SRF organization aim at Christ Consciousness.

Yoga, the applied science of self-realization:

Is science necessary for self-realization? You bet it is!

What is the scientific method? They are the principles and procedures for the systematic pursuit of knowledge. It is involving the recognition and formulation of a problem, the collection of data through observation and experiment, and the formulation and testing of hypotheses (as defined by https://www.merriam-webster.com). A hypothesis is retested again and again until it becomes consistent with observed phenomena and testing outcomes.

Ancient and present-day self-realized saints followed such roadways. Jesus, Bhagavan Krishna, and others have passed the test for qualifying as a personal guru whose life mission was for our self-realization gaining God’s Consciousness. They too applied a scientific method and achieved full soul realization, as Jesus said, “I and the Father are One.”

Yoga is a science for self-realization because it provides a practical, systematic, and holistic approach and practice to understanding oneself, and who we really are. Since each individual is a creation of God, at various levels, physical, mental, and spiritual, to realize oneself as God’s son or God’s daughter is the goal. Most do not internalize and express the capabilities which will arise from that connection.

As previously mentioned, self-realization can be boiled down to a science. God’s realization is the aim of Yoga meditation.

Meditation, in a way, is like scientists, physicists, and biologists who are on the verge of something they feel might be a big discovery. They press on and on aiming their concentrated focus towards a solution hoping for a big result. They’ll probe deeper into an aspect and see failure after failure.

As a scientist, practice makes perfect:

Don’t lose hope, practice methods for discovery again and again. Scientists feel that they are on the verge of a solution yet, most likey, it does not show itself. As such, they look at the logic of it, build their rules of attack, build the computations to solve that puzzle, experiment, and even then, often nothing happens.

Correspondently, I’ve heard, that if those scientists retire, disengage their minds from the puzzle, ready to attack again tomorrow, sometimes that answer appears. They might turn on a movie, listen to a song, go for a long walk, and then, suddenly the solution comes! Something so obvious! They then work the solution insight and success arrives! A fact is made by proof. Belief is fantasy, a fact is a fact.

By suspending the chatterbox brain with its mental mechanics, logic that was in his/her psyche, all the barriers that were getting him/her nowhere, the solution appeared. Therefore, the solution was always there, hidden, waiting for the barrier to come down. That realization might take minutes, hours, years or lifetimes. Finally, the realization of truth is reality; what is happening now.

Enlightenment is, anything else is memory or assumption. Now is experience.

Conscious awakening increases to create reality. It achieves success in the 3rd dimension. The 4th dimension is a spiritual dimension, similar to the third dimension but is more elevated by love, peace, joy desire to heal others and transform things occurs.

In the 5th dimension, there is no self-judgment. Pure Love and abundance simply is. You’ll say, I love my life every moment, and realize that nothing can make me happier than I am right now.

Mediation path to self-realization:

It’s difficult to quit the internal ramblings of the mind. The mind is always churning out new thoughts, varied pictures, reach-out impulses, and impressions from the senses. A method for taming and controlling the senses is sorely needed before the enlightenment process can begin. Strengthening awareness vs giving into thought chatter is the challenge to master.

When internal chatter is the dominating compulsion swirling in your brain we get lost in the woods. G. M. Wolf said, “If you know when you are thinking and you know when you are not thinking, what does knowing have to do with knowledge, which is an accumulation of thought?

The aim of meditation is to get the mind quiet like in the days when you were in mothers’ womb. Christal clear quietness, where there is nothing happening around you, is a clean doorway to walk through. Waiting patiently with absolute clarity will eventually let you see what is.

Correspondingly, the practice of meditation is an example left to us by an advanced soul like Jesus, who meditated for 40 days and 40 nights. His amazing presence and influence changed the focus of many lives globally.

Likewise, Buddha sat under the Bodhi tree in meditation for 49 days. During this time, he faced various challenges and temptations before finally reaching enlightenment.

Self-realization for today’s generation:

We live in a different age. Over many years, Paramahansa Yogananda under the tutelage of his self-realized master Sri Yukteswar, learned a specific Yogic practice that led to his self-realization.

In today’s busy electronic computer age, an exceptional pure path of Kria Yoga was given to the world. The Western world at last gets taught by a realized master, Paramahansa Yogananda, whose extensive teachings provide the means and opportunity for all practitioners to attain self-realization.

You don’t know what you don’t know. Most are overworking the mystery of life’s greatest puzzle; ‘who am I.’ Erase the idea of ‘how do I’ to learn things you don’t know yet. How can you apply your three-dimensional logic to something that is beyond logic? It’s only when you suspend that 3-D mode, and with a proven meditation practice, let Spirit take you beyond do you have a chance.
Life’s experiences show that the world is powerless by itself to bring about lasting bliss. It’s only our connection with God that truly gives us power, purpose, and love.

Kahlil Gibran observed, “Work is love made visible. And if you can’t work with love, but only with distaste, it is better that you should leave your work and sit at the gate of the temple and take alms of the people who work with joy.”  Finding who you are and expressing God’s love makes for a happy existence. God is love.

The Kriya Yoga path:

Paramahansa Yogananda followed a practice known as Kria Yoga that he learned from his guru master. The practice had been given in this recent era to hasten the progress of self-realized beings. Gratefully, his life mission is to share those insights with us through books and commentaries such as “The Second Coming Of Christ,” a commentary on all the passages from the four Gospels and many other writings and lectures.

With Kriya Yoga, every novice knows that the barrier that keeps them from advancing is dissolving the constant distracting thoughts. Simply practice what Master Paramahansa Yogananda teaches and progress is made. As with any practice, the intent to go beyond those barriers is by dropping logic and suspending belief and dogma. Practice is fundamental for attaining proficiency in a sport or any skill.

Yogananda and Jesus’ affirmation:

In the Autobiography of a Yogi, Paramahansaji was blessed with the presence and vision of Jesus Christ many times during his lifetime and, in later years, asked a question of Jesus pertaining to these writings in the Second Coming Of Christ. It was a time of silent prayer and his room became filled with an opal-blue light, and Christ appeared–radiant and about him a glow of golden light. Looking into his wondrously beautiful eyes, he asked Christ if he had pleased him in the way he had interpreted his teachings.

At once a Chalice appeared at Christ’s lips, and then came over to touch his own, and Christ answered: “Your lips have quaffed the same LIVING WATERS from which I drink.” Holy words of matchless assurance that Yogananda cherished in his heart!

Yoga and the science for self-realization:

Integration of Body, Mind, and Spirit: Yoga recognizes the interconnectedness of the body, mind, and spirit. It offers a set of practices that involve physical postures (asanas), breathing techniques (pranayama), meditation, and ethical do’s and don’ts guidelines (yamas and niyamas) to harmonize and balance these aspects of the self. Integrating these dimensions, yoga helps individuals develop a deeper understanding of themselves and their place in the world.

“Kriya Yoga with devotion, like mathematics cannot fail,” said Yogananda. One needs to know, “I need God” in order to know one’s purpose. One constantly needs to know their need for God in their lives said Yogananda. Constantly keeping that in mind gives us that joy that every person is seeking.

What the world has fallen short of is blissful joy and repeating a prayer throughout the day will let you remember your purpose said Yogananda. “I need God” needs prompting throughout the day.

What Is Kriya Yoga About?

Kria Yoga is a spinal and third eye breathing exercise. Third Eye: *Many masters have revealed that the point between the eyebrows is that focus of concentration. Jesus said, in the King James translation, “The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light.”

That eye Jesus referred to is the spiritual eye. “Pour your consciousness into your spiritual eye to Infinity” as a focus said Paramahansa Yogananda.

A brief overview of the Kriya Yoga practice that Paramahansa Yogananda encourages:

All the following practices encourage a fixation of the mind and attention at the point between the eyebrows. This orb is the eye of God, and as Jesus said, “If therefore thine eye be single, they whole body shall be full of light”

The practice starts with an energization exercise. Then a short primary breathing exercise, an opening prayer to Father, Mother, Friend & beloved God, Jesus Christ and Christ Conscious gurus followed by short Cosmic chant, either mental or loud (that chant can be chosen from a multitude of recommended chants).

Next, a short secondary breathing exercise. Then a ten minute or more practice of the Hong-Sau meditation technique followed by a ten minute or more Aum meditation technique followed by a quiet third eye focus concentration. Next, practice three Maha Mudras (a ritualistic leg and spinal stretching practice) followed by a double inhale and exhale. Then begin the Kriya Yoga.

After completing the Kria practice, it is trailed by Jyoti Mudra (a ritualistic third eye visualization exercise) followed by 3 double inhales and exhales. And now a period of sitting in stillness with a third eye focus quiet time unfolds. Lastly, in the morning, a prayer asking for God, gurus, and saints to make one’s day abundant with worthwhile achievements and with their constant presence to flow through your heart and mind as long as the day unfolds for beneficial results.

This meditation system is encouraged for both a morning and an evening practice. Those with demanding schedules and little free time, just need to do their best.

As Paramahansa Yogananda said, “Until you are a true master, able to command yourself to do the things that you should do but may not want to do, you are not a free soul. In that power of self-control lies the seed of eternal freedom.”

Kriya Yoga practice is a scientific way to grow full self-control.

A few keys to remember for those along this path:

Anyone who wants to pursue a path to God realization has a lot of obstacles to overcome. We are programmed by parents, friends, teachers, books, schools, TV shows, the internet and so many other sources since birth. The brain is filled with jumbles of knowledge! To move on to a higher realm, the squawking mind trying to rule our consciousness needs to refocus on moving from the 3rd dimension to a higher spiritual dimension.

Obviously, a  novice can begin practicing the presence of God throughout the day. Yoga is the art of doing everything in the consciousness of God. For practicing the presence of God it is advised to repeat a chant or affirmation. Examples: “God answer me.“ Or, “Make me realize again that Thou and I are one.” Or, “I and my Father are One.” Or, “God, God, God.” Or, “joy, joy, joy, joy, ever new joy, joy.” And, there are many more along these lines that help to refocus one’s attention.

Aiming for regularity in the practice that is taught by Paramahansa Yogananda for awakening self-realization is important. Conducting a Kriya Yoga practice with devotion works like mathematics; it cannot fail said the master.

Sitting in silence might get you nowhere. That’s why scientific methods of devotion will lead you faster in that direction. Kria spinal breathing helps tame that monkey mind and helps anyone reach higher levels much more automatically.

Experience insight and transformation:

There are many other Yogic techniques. By engaging in Yogic practices, individuals can directly experience the transformative effects on their physical, mental, and spiritual well-being that eventually leads to self-realization. For any Yogic meditation technique, there are slow methods and faster result-producing methods. Kriya Yoga is the lightning path.

Common sense tells us to watch our inner and outer environment, what you’re reading, watching, the company you keep, etc. Keep the consciousness pure; everything that goes into your senses affects you. “See that which is good, hear that which is good, speak that which is good.”  Through the practices of Yoga, individuals aim to transcend limited identification with the ego and connect with their true essence.

Nonetheless, spending time reading some spiritual teachings every day is a beneficial use of time.  It will inspire us on the journey.

The history of Yoga has its roots in ancient Indian philosophical and spiritual traditions. It draws upon the wisdom of Yogic texts like the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, the Bhagavad Gita, the Yoga of Jesus, and through the extensive writings of Paramahansa Yogananda provides a comprehensive understanding of the human experience. These teachings are helpful to those on this confirmed path leading to self-realization.

Getting that extra energy to succeed:

Energization exercises are extremely useful and part of the practices given by Paramahansa Yogananda and are found on YouTube by searching for: “Yogananda’s Energization Exercises” or Google: “energization exercises yogananda youtube video. Also, by subscribing to lessons offered at SRF, access to those video energization exercises are provided.

As noted, these energization exercises are the springboards of power within the body where one can concentrate on will and energy. This way the body cells are charged and rejuvenated with the necessary vital energy for the day. Also, those exercises prevent untimely decay and/or invasions of germs and pathogens into the body.

“As you walk the path of life, you must come to the realization that God is the only object, the only goal that will satisfy you for in God lies the answer to every desire of the heart” spoke Paramahansa Yogananda. His life’s mission is to help you reach that self-realization.

Direct experience over intellectual knowledge:

The ego attempts to satisfy itself through material” desires. As those longings increase, misery increases. The slave of material desires and hunger appetite is never appeased indulging the senses. Master the ego and gain self-control and find more hidden joy in everything.

“Forget the past,” said Sri Yukteswar. “The vanquished lives of all men are dark with many waves of shame. Human conduct is ever unreliable until man is anchored in the Divine. Everything in the future will improve if you’re making a spiritual effort now.” Cauterize bad habits by the opposite: good habits. By meditating deeply on God and commanding God to change the brain cells of your mind, to destroy the groves of bad habits, changes will take place in the pattern of your mind.

Control your energy so it doesn’t control you. The future is composed of the past. So, using your intuition serves with love into your doingness. Align with desire and intuition, and make sure it’s not coming from the egoic mind. As Jesus said, “Blessed are the pure at heart: for they shall see God.”

Reach out to God’s children:

Devotion is cultivated willpower. Visualize some inspiring stories, visualize something that inspires LOVE. Pray to God to feel more love for God. “Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you? “(1 Corinthians, 3:16)

There is greater power in Creation’s Creator that knows your name and is ready to help you now and forever. The Creative Power source has been with you and me all along, but the barrier that kept me from connecting to it all along was that logical thought process, and the idea of personal intelligence. Realize, “I can put myself in a position where I can let it go!”

A scientific method of meditation exists where the ‘let it go’ works so you can take the hand of God and move around with His consciousness inside you. Meditation takes you into the enlightened mind and spirit and out of the ego.

Furthermore, fear and backsliding come from the brain and one needs to disengage that survival instinct. One way to let go is by engaging in a scientific meditation practice like Kriya Yoga.

Paramahansa Yogananda’s Autobiography:

Yogananda said, “Every minute is eternity because eternity can be experienced in that minute. Every day and minute and hour is a window through which you may see eternity. Life is brief, yet it is unending. The soul is everlasting, but out of the short season of that life, you should reap the most you can out of your immortality.”

Above all, I was told that, getting to the state where I can honestly love life, where I can always feel that nothing in this world can make me happier than I am right now, is the most powerful state to live in.  It’s where I get clarity as to what I really want to create into reality. The steps needed along that path will be given as one ascends dimensions.

Note:  This transcript and this page are information gained from realized masters, channelers, and enlightened ones. The observations and writings are provided as encouragement for anyone curious about following a path that has, I feel, the high probability for success.
